Hooning charges in Queensland are not straightforward. In other states around Australia charges relate mainly to street racing.

In Queensland, however, they relate to a broad range of other charges, and fall into two ‘types’:

Type 1 offences include:

  • Dangerous driving.

  • Street racing (organising, promoting or taking part in racing and speed trials).
  • Wilfully starting or driving a vehicle in a way that makes unnecessary noise or smoke.
  • Evading police.

Type 2 offences include:

  • Driving a vehicle that is unregistered and uninsured.
  • Driving without a licence.
  • Driving when you licence has been suspended.
  • Exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h.
  • High level drink driving (with a blood alcohol reading of above 0.15%).
  • Driving a modified vehicle that does not comply with safety standards.
  • Driving while under a 24-hour suspension order.
